OPAL & OPEN: Benefits of Membership

Unified's OPAL (Objective PAtent Landscape) and OPEN (standards repository) reports were designed to address asymmetries in the licensing of standard essential patents and to create a more fair and transparent patent licensing process around some of the core patents supporting these next waves of consumer technology growth. 

Unified has published OPAL and OPEN reports for the new Video Codec Zone which provides a comprehensive analysis of standard essential patents and technical specifications for the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC or H.265) standard developed by the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC).

As with Unified’s other zones, small companies join for free, while larger ones pay yearly subscriptions to help deter asymmetric behavior in specific technology areas. Unified has launched the new Video Codec Zone with more than 100 companies, with many more expected to join.
